"Queen of spades" cropped cardigan in Tunisian Crochet

THE MAKING OF A LOVELY CARDIGAN IN TUNISIAN CROCHET In the last little while, as you may have noticed, I have been working on an ambitious project: the creation of a Tunisian crochet garment, using a leaf motif (or "spades", as I preferred to call it) already seen in some wonderful knitting projects. First, I thought about replicating the spade pattern in Tunisian crochet, which was not difficult, as I have created similar patterns before - you can find them, for example, in these projects of mine: Leaf it On Shawl , Leaf it On Scarf , Leaf it On Cowl .  Leaf it On Scarf Next, I thought it best to make a garment that had a simple workmanship, i.e. worked flat, and not in the round, to avoid, at least initially, over-complicating the design. A cardigan, therefore, was the best choice. Next, I chose a yarn that I liked and opted for a fine multicoloured yarn. This was the result: "QUEEN OF SPADES" - THE CAL! I liked the finished garment very much, and so did you, whic

CROCHET PATTERN FOR ARMREST COVER

Today I am taking a break from my Tunisian crochet course to show you what I’ve been working on lately. Well, I have been busy on many fronts, but some of my most requested items these days have been my CROCHET ARMREST COVERS. Through the years, seeing how successful they have been on my Etsy shop "Hookloopsarah", I have developed different designs for armrest covers: some were my own idea, others came to life following a special custom request.

CROCHET ARMREST COVERS…AGAINST CATS!

The idea for an armrest cover came to me very simply to protect my sofa posts from my cats’ scratches. I knew from experience that, once the little evil beasts decide where they like to sharpen their claws on best, there’s no way to prevent them from doing so forever, literally destroying that piece of furniture. After the first damages were visible, I decided to crochet an armrest cover to hide them, basically. To my great surprise, I then discovered that my cats were somehow baffled by the presence of the cover in their favourite scratching place and they moved on, perplexed, giving up on their bad habit (at least for the time being). What a great expedient!

DIFFERENT DESIGNS FOR ARMREST COVERS

The first crochet armrest cover I made was a simple green cap I created using the “Corner 2 Corner” technique – I still use it! When I added it to my Etsy shop as custom item and started receiving requests and orders for it, I realised that many people had the same problem as me with their pets at home damaging their furniture, but I also discovered that many simply liked the idea of an armrest cover as decorative asset.
After that first “C2C” design, I developed different designs, taking into consideration also the form of the armrest itself. So for example I created covers for rounded armrests, for square ones, using many different colours, following the customers’ wish.

PATTERN FOR GRANNY SQUARE ARMREST COVER

Still, one of my most successful designs so far proved to be the “Granny Square armrest cover”. I produced it in many different colours, as well as in solid colours. People really seem to like this item, so much so that many asked me if there was a pattern for it. I always had to answer “no” until now, so my SURPRISE to you today is this: I have finally released the step-by-step crochet pattern to create this stunning decorative armrest cap, and you can find it HERE (check this LINK if you prefer to purchase the pattern on Ravelry or LoveCrafts).

I wish you lots of crocheting fun with this pattern!
